The Longmont Fire Department paid a visit to our kindergarten and first grade students. Topics about fire safety included how to check for a fire using the door, utilizing a relocation space, and not being afraid of firemen in their safety gear. If anyone detects a fire, they should put the back of their hand on the door to detect heat transfer. If there is no heat and no smoke they can open the door. If the door is hot, they should look for another exit. When outside, children should reunite with their families at a predetermined spot. Most important, when a fireman comes to help you don’t run away from them, you accept their help. Of course the highlight of the visit was getting to see all of the fire equipment. From fires houses to axes, our students enjoyed learning about our local fire department.
