Principal’s Den

Dear Timberline Families,

The wintery weather arrived full force this week! Please ensure that your students have warm coats, hats and gloves or mittens as the temperature changes. We plan to go outside if the weather is above 20 degrees. If you need support with acquiring these items, please contact Maria Aldaba, our family liaison, in the main office. Also, if there is potential for inclement weather, we will ensure that all students take their iPads home. There is detailed information about the district’s options to respond to inclement weather in the newsletter below.

We are featuring all of the amazing things happening in our classrooms on social media. You can find us at:

Cold Weather is Here

Winter weather is here! Students should come to school properly dressed for the weather. We will be going outside during the school day at lunch recess when the temperature is at or above 20 degrees Fahrenheit. As the temperatures get colder, students are encouraged to have the following items: winter hat for outside, gloves/mittens, and warm and dry shoes. Please make sure that your child has the right clothing for them to feel comfortable both inside and outside of the building.

PIE

The next session of PIE (Parents Involved in Education) will be Tuesday, November 12th 6-7:30pm at Timberline PK-8. The topic is Let’s Talk About Wellness with a focus on mind, body, and emotional health. Dinner will be served 5:15-6pm and childcare is available. https://buff.ly/4fIfhzB

It will be open every day from 8:30-4:00.

Pre-Collegiate Development Program

PCDP is an opportunity for 7th and 8th graders to receive assistance with preparing for high school and applying for college. They teach skills that will be useful for high school and college such as studying, note-taking, test preparation, leadership, communication skills, career exploration and cultural enrichment. They also help parents and students navigate applying for scholarships, completing FAFSA’s, and college and university searches. Interviews for 7th and 8th graders that apply to PCDP will be on November 13th. The program will consist of 2 Saturday academies; one in the fall and another in the spring (Parent or Guardian must attend with student).

Inclement Weather

Please visit the District website here for more information regarding Inclement Weather Days

Anytime our community experiences inclement weather, our operations and leadership teams are driving roads throughout the evening and early morning, and in communication with various city and town officials, closely monitoring weather conditions. Our first priority, as long as it is deemed safe by our team in consultation with other municipality officials, will be in-person learning.  Based on road conditions and weather forecasts, we will make one of three decisions:

  1. To keep a normal in-person school schedule
  2. Delay the start of school by two hours
  3. Shift to a shortened online learning day

2-hour Weather Delay

We will start school 2 hours later than regularly scheduled start times. Bus schedules will also start 2 hours later. (Please note that weather delays are different from our scheduled late-start days.)

Grades K – 8

  • Classes will begin 2 hours after regular time
  • After school programs will continue as scheduled

Preschool:

  • Morning Classes: Will be canceled
  • Afternoon Classes: Will follow normal schedules
  • Full-day preschool: Will begin 2 hours later than their regularly scheduled start time

Shortened Online Learning Day (no in-school classes)

When inclement weather closes our schools to in-person learning, we will be instituting a shortened online learning schedule. During these closures to in-person learning, students will receive synchronous direct instruction on a shortened schedule, with additional asynchronous time to complete assignments.  This link contains links to resources for families in both English and Spanish, including information on Webex.  It is important to know:  Attendance for your student’s virtual participation will be taken within the first 5 minutes of each Webex online class session.  It is important that your student logs in to each Webex class session.

Upcoming Events

  • 11/12: Boys Basketball game Timberline @ Aspen Ridge
  • 11/12: PIE Session
  • 11/13: Fall Choir and Orchestra Concert
  • 11/14: Fall Band and Mariachi Concert
  • 11/15: Cafecito
