Principal’s Den

Dear Wolfpack Families,

We hope that you are enjoying a bit of a warm-up with the weather! This week, the Wolfpack will be incredibly busy with students finishing ACCESS Speaking assessments, a Robotics tournament at Sunset Middle, the last week of the girls’ basketball season, and the Primero Youth Summit for middle school students. It is exciting to see all of the opportunities our students have to get involved in St. Vrain!

Please know that we will be using a different format for conferences this spring… classroom conferences. You can read below for more information about this new format. At Timberline, our goal is to meet with 100% of families during the conference window. You are, after all, the best resource we have to provide your students with a world class education. #powerofthepack

Classroom Conferences – Save the dates – Tuesday, 1/30 and Thursday, 2/1

This spring, we will be using a Classroom Conference model. Classroom Conferences are a research and evidence based system that emerged from a grassroots effort to connect families and teachers to drive student learning. Classroom Conferences build classroom communities, increase parents’ capacity to support their students’ education, and improve students’ academic achievement. You can find more information about Classroom Conferences here.

coldweather

Cold Weather is Here!

Winter weather is here! Students should come to school properly dressed for the weather. We will be going outside during the school day at lunch recess when the temperature is at or above 20 degrees Fahrenheit. As the temperatures get colder, students are encouraged to have the following items: winter hat for outside, gloves/mittens, and warm and dry shoes. Please make sure that your child has the right clothing for them to feel comfortable both inside and outside of the building.

Inclement Weather

Please visit the District website here for more information regarding Inclement Weather Days

Anytime our community experiences inclement weather, our operations and leadership teams are driving roads throughout the evening and early morning, and in communication with various city and town officials, closely monitoring weather conditions. Our first priority, as long as it is deemed safe by our team in consultation with other municipality officials, will be in-person learning.  Based on road conditions and weather forecasts, we will make one of three decisions:

  1. To keep a normal in-person school schedule
  2. Delay the start of school by two hours
  3. Shift to a shortened online learning day

2-hour Weather Delay

We will start school 2 hours later than regularly scheduled start times. Bus schedules will also start 2 hours later. (Please note that weather delays are different from our scheduled late-start days.)

Grades K – 8

  • Classes will begin 2 hours after regular time
  • After school programs will continue as scheduled

Preschool:

  • Morning Classes: Will be canceled
  • Afternoon Classes: Will follow normal schedules
  • Full-day preschool: Will begin 2 hours later than their regularly scheduled start time

Shortened Online Learning Day (no in-school classes)

When inclement weather closes our schools to in-person learning, we will be instituting a shortened online learning schedule. During these closures to in-person learning, students will receive synchronous direct instruction on a shortened schedule, with additional asynchronous time to complete assignments.  This link contains links to resources for families in both English and Spanish, including information on Webex.  It is important to know:  Attendance for your student’s virtual participation will be taken within the first 5 minutes of each Webex online class session.  It is important that your student logs in to each Webex class session.

parkinglot

Family Drop Off/Pick Up Loop

Timberline provides a drop off and pick up loops for the convenience of our families. The rear loop is located south of the school building. Parents can easily and conveniently enter and exit following the traffic loop with quick and safe curbside drop off and pick up.  This entrance is off Lashley street between the school and park. Parents may also drop off their students in the two front traffic loops. Please make sure that your students use proper crosswalks.  We must not have students entering traffic lanes to get into cars or to exit cars to get into school. We have several staff supervising and monitoring the parking lots for everyone’s safety.  Cars need to stay in the designated traffic areas or use designated parking places. Please also make sure to stay clear of our bus lanes along the curb just west of the main doors.  The safety of our students, families, and staff is a priority.

attendance

Attendance

At Timberline, we support student attendance in many positive ways. Why? Because staff and students both miss out when students are absent. One criteria of a student’s success in school is regular and punctual attendance. We want to support excellent attendance for our Wolf families in any way we can. Please reach out to your child’s teacher if you are in need of support with attendance.

Students are considered tardy if they arrive at school after 8:25am or if they arrive after the start time of each period at the middle school level. Students who come in after class has started are at a disadvantage both academically and socially. It is a challenge to catch up after the teacher has introduced the learning for the day. We ask for your support in ensuring your students arrive to school on time.

Reporting Student Absences

Please notify the school office in the morning if your child will be absent. The school needs to know that your child is with you and safe. If we are unable to contact you, we must consider the absence unexcused. You can report an absence to our office by phone at 303-772-7900 or by email to [email protected]

cellfree

Cell Free Zone

In order to support a vibrant learning environment, Timberline is a cell phone free zone between 8:20am and 3:30pm, including before and after school activities. Families ALWAYS have access to their students, and students ALWAYS have access to their families through our office phones. Please contact our office at 303-772-7900 and we will be happy to connect you with your child.

birthday

Birthdays

We love celebrating birthdays at Timberline. Birthdays are announced each day in our morning message and teachers celebrate in a variety of ways in their classrooms. To support wellness, and also to meet the diverse dietary needs of our students, we ask that you provide small and simple birthday treats for your child’s class (ex. Cookies or mini-cupcakes).

codeofconduct

Code of Conduct –  Parent Action Required

Thank you for your partnership and supporting the academic growth, safety, and well-being of our students. Each year the District publishes a manual for students and families entitled, “Behavioral code of conduct and Board of Education Policies, Rights and Responsibilities of Students and Parents”. It is important that families review this information every year and acknowledge their receipt and understanding of this document.

To this end, please click here to access an electronic version of the revised Code of Conduct for the 2023-2024 school year. After you have reviewed this information, all families must sign an electronic acknowledgement that they have received, read, and understand the information contained, including the Annual Notification to Parents/Guardians; Behavioral Code of Conduct; Rights and Responsibilities of Students and Parents; and Board of Education Policies book.

To sign your electronic acknowledgement, please follow the steps described here.  Thank you for your continued partnership and support. If you have any questions, please feel free to Timberline.
